Proverbs 30

We all get to a place where we come to the stark realization that we may not be able to answer life’s hardest questions. Such was the realization for Agur, the author of Proverbs 30. He finally had to admit he was unable to grow wise or find God on his own. I was reminded of 1 Corinthians 2:9-10, “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”

God, through the Holy Spirit, reveals Himself to us and gives us wisdom. Once He does, we start to see His greatness in nature and in His Word. (vv. 3-6). #moreholyspiritactivity. The realization of God’s greatness drove Agur to adoration, as a result this proverb chapter has the only prayer in it. Agur asks God to give him a meaningful life and provide what he needs to get by every day.

This attitude was dramatically different then, as it is today. When Agur looked around, he did not see people awestruck with God, which is so similar to present day. Instead, we see a disrespectful, self-righteous, prideful, arrogant and fiercely oppressive generation. (vv. 11-14)
When we truly get a glimpse of how amazing God is, our lives are forever changed. It is only when we acknowledge God’s majesty that we will humble ourselves and begin to learn from Him and listen to the counsel of God, for “every word of God proves true.” (v. 5)

Similar to Agur’s prayer, I pray the Holy Spirit would reveal how awesome God truly is! Let us be awestruck by You, God! Holy Spirit, have Your way in our hearts, strengthen our inner man so that Christ may richly dwell in our hearts through faith. We want to understand Your great love and be filled with the fullness of God. AMEN!

Blessings,
Pastor Adrian

My favorite this morning was verse 8.

"give me neither poverty nor riches. Otherwise I may have too much and disown you/ Or I may become poor and steal"

I think our lives were meant to be a struggle and that the best is brought out in us when the threat of being poor is real, as is the opportunity to improve our status. It's the striving that makes us better, not actually achieving. God wants us to serve others by being productive and He has given us all the resources we need. It is up to us to use them wisely. I feel close to God when I pray, but I also feel close to God when I am doing His work....which can be any work from mowing my lawn, to washing our windows, to doing food baskets at church, to going to a place of employment. The work we do is not to earn salvation, nor is it to build a huge bank account. It is to serve. And when I do it, I feel God's approval.
